Summer Study Tours
Summer Camp for Cross-strait Medical Students
Time : Summer
Place : Guangdong Province, China
Duration : 10-12 days
Target Students : Western and Chinese medicine students
Objectives and Expected Benefits: The study tour is organized by the School of Medicine of Sun Yat-Sen University with an aim to:
 
  • promote exchange activities among cross-strait medical students;
  • strengthen students' understanding of Chinese history and Chinese culture and build up nationality awareness; and
  • broaden students' exposure in Mainland China to keep abreast of the latest economic and social developments.
Internship and Practicum
Clinical Practicum for Chinese Medicine
Time : Summer of 3rd year of BCM/BScBS programme
Place : Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China
Duration : 8 weeks
Target Students : Year 3 students of BCM/BScBS
Objectives and Expected Benefits: This practicum is an integral part of the BCM/BScBS programme requirement. Through this internship programme, students are provided with opportunities to receive clinical training in a first-rate TCM hospital in Mainland China. Students will be assigned to serve in various specialty wards/clinics, which will greatly enrich their clinical skills and experience.
Clinical Internship
Time : 5th year of BCM/BScBS programme
Place : Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China
Duration : 10 months
Target Students : Year 5 students of BCM/BScBS
Objectives and Expected Benefits: This internship programme is an integral part of the BCM/BScBS programme requirement. Students are provided with opportunities to conduct clinical internship in a first-rate TCM hospital in Mainland China. Extensive clinical attachment to various specialty wards and clinics will be offered to students with an aim of enhancing their clinical skills and experience through in-depth training.
Supervised Practicum (Year 2 of BPharm)
Time : 2nd year of BPharm programme
Place : Local or Mainland botanical gardens
Duration : 2 weeks
Target Students : Year 2 students of BPharm
Objectives and Expected Benefits: This practicum is an integral part of the BPharm programme requirement. It is expected that students will acquire knowledge of medicinal botany through exploring different study areas of this field.
Supervised Practicum (Year 4 of BPharm)
Time : 4th year of BPharm programme

Duration : 3.5 months
Target Students : Year 4 students of BPharm
Objectives and Expected Benefits: This practicum is an integral part of the BPharm programme requirement. It is expected that students will benefit from the supervised practicum through:
 
  • conducting unique processing of Chinese materia medica and examining the quality of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces;
  • practicing dispensing skill and pharmacy management in the dispensing sector, storage room of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces, and decoction preparation sector of Chinese medicine hospitals and clinics; and
  • exercising the production and quality examination of proprietary Chinese medicines.
