Prof ZHAO Zhongzhen

Being a renowned expert in the study of Chinese medicinal material and Chinese medicine products, Prof. Zhao has been engaged in the authentication, quality assurance of herbal medicine and Chinese medicine products as well as research in the development and application of herbal resources in medicine in recent years. He is currently the programme director of our Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in Chinese Medicine programme and is responsible for teaching Chinese Materia Medica and Chinese Medicinal Formulae.

Prof. Zhao graduated from Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology and China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1980s. In 1990, he obtained his PhD degree in Pharmacy in Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Science in Japan. Prof. Zhao has won the Award of Science Innovation at the State level and was named an Outstanding Young Scientist of China. He has been the research director of Laboratory of Chinese Medicine, senior researcher in ISKRA Kampoo Medcine Center, Japan and President of the Association of Medicine and Pharmacy, ACSEJ. He is currently the advisor of Traditional Medicines in the West Pacific Region of World Health Organisation, and the member of Chinese Medicines Board, Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong and International Advisory Board, Hong Kong Standard of Chinese Materia Medica, Department of Health, Hong Kong.
