The University recently received a donation of HK$500,000 from Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co. Ltd. (Tong Ren Tang) to support the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) in establishing the Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Scholarship which will be used to recognise SCM undergraduates with outstanding academic achievements as well as to encourage students to contribute to the industry and society after graduation.
The cheque presentation ceremony was held today (18 December). Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Zhang Huanping, Executive Director and Deputy General Manager, Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co. Ltd., Ms. Magie Hua, Deputy General Manager, Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co. Ltd.; and Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, HKBU.
The University has received tremendous support from Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co. Ltd. over the years for the development of SCM. This support has not only enhanced the overall standard of the Chinese medicine profession, but also contributed greatly to the promotion of Chinese medicine knowledge.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Albert Chan praised Tong Ren Tong for its dedication to research and development in Chinese medicine, to the promotion of Chinese medicine culture and to the charity work the company has undertaken to contribute to the community. Professor Chan said Tong Ren Tang has been supporting HKBU over the years by sponsoring SCM activities, inviting students to visit the company and factory in Hong Kong and on the Mainland, and offering students internships.
