2 May 2013

HKBU recently received the donation of an 1886 Benz Patent Motor-Wagen Replica from Dr. Andrew Sia, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, and Mrs. Sia for exhibition and charity auction. The net proceeds generated will go to the School of Chinese Medicine Development Fund. In recognition of the donors’ generosity, the University held an opening ceremony for the Exhibition of the 1886 Benz Patent Motor-Wagen Replica today (2 May). Officiating guests included Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Sia and their daughter Miss Tina Sia as well as Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor. At the ceremony, Professor Chan presented a 1:18 scale model of the 1886 Benz Patent Motor-Wagen to Dr. and Mrs. Sia as a souvenir. The exhibition will be held from today until 23 May from 10 am to 10 pm at the Dr. and Mrs. Sze Chi Ching Exhibition Gallery, Lam Woo International Conference Centre, Shaw Campus. The vehicle on display, which will be auctioned for charity, is a faithful replica of the world’s first automobile designed by German engineer Carl Benz who created the gas engine-operated automobile and was granted the patent for it in 1886. It is a limited quantity replica which has a very high appreciation and collection value.
