The event brought together over 200 distinguished guests from the Government departments, Chinese medicine industry and academia, alongside the University’s senior management team members, and staff, students and alumni of SCM, to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

In his welcoming address, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, expressed his gratitude to the tremendous support from friends in various sectors. HKBU has always been at the forefront of health sciences, persistently transforming the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine into innovative therapies and pharmaceutical products. He praised the School for its remarkable scientific achievements, and hoped that SCM will continue to play an important role in the development of Chinese medicine, showcasing HKBU’s unique value and contributions to human well-being across the globe.

Mr. Dominic Ho, Acting Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development of the Health Bureau, stated that Chinese medicine services are an integral part of the healthcare system in Hong Kong. The Hospital, expected to commence its service in phases starting from late 2025, will provide high-quality clinical service to the general public and develop as the flagship in teaching and training, scientific research, multi-lateral collaborations, and the creation of value for health.

In his vote of thanks, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School and Acting Dean of Chinese Medicine, said that the guest lineup for this tea reception is impressive and thanked all sectors for their care, support and concern for the School. He reviewed SCM’s teaching and research achievements in the past year and expressed the hope that the School can integrate the theories and experience of Chinese medicine with modern biomedical, life sciences, and data sciences, fostering new models for future medical development in Hong Kong.

To enhance the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year, SCM arranged a lion dance performance to bestow blessings upon all guests. As the new year begins, the School extends wishes for the flourishing development of the Chinese medicine industry and looks forward to joining hands with various sectors to create a brilliant future!
