Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), the first institution funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) to offer undergraduate education in Chinese medicine and pharmacy in Chinese medicine in Hong Kong, established the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) in 1999. SCM has, since its inception, been committed to providing quality academic programmes, engaging in cutting-edge research and technology development, offering first-rate Chinese medicine healthcare services, and contributing to the standardisation, modernisation and internationalisation of Chinese medicine.
Embracing the University’s ethos of whole person education and abiding by its motto of “Sincerity in Service.Erudition and Integrity”, SCM has grown rapidly over the years into a fully-fledged school excelling on all fronts and emerged as a leader in Chinese medicine in the higher education sector in Hong Kong. The School now boasts a full range of quality academic programmes, leading to the award of different academic qualifications, including UGC-funded undergraduate and research postgraduate programmes as well as self-financed taught master’s and sub-degree programmes. It also prides itself on a high-calibre research team which has been widely recognised for being at the forefront of translational research and drug discovery, as well as a comprehensive clinical network which has won the trust of the community at large by way of evidence-based practice.
The School is well poised to leverage the opportunities afforded by Hong Kong’s first Chinese medicine hospital, which will be run by HKBU, to scale greater heights in its endeavours to advance and sustain the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong and beyond.
