Expert Insight: Targeted Therapy for Muscle Diseases

19 March 2024

On 19 March, SCM hosted an academic visit from Dr. Han Gang from the Research Centre of Basic Medical Science, Tianjin Medical University, who delivered an inspiring lecture entitled “Research on Targeted Therapy for Muscle Diseases”.

Dr. Han shared his novel research on the targeted therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a lethal muscle disease. He addressed the limited effectiveness of nucleic acid drugs in DMD treatment and developed a series of muscle-targeted delivery systems based on exosomes and natural small molecules, which enable the efficient delivery of nucleic acid drugs to muscles and enhance their activity, making it more effective in treating muscle diseases.

Dr. Han’s talk demonstrated new directions for targeted therapy for muscle diseases. In-depth academic exchanges on drug delivery methods for muscle diseases were conducted between him and our students and researchers. The School looks forward to engaging in collaborations with Dr. Han in the future for more pioneering scientific research.

This event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the K. C. Wong Education Foundation – HKBU Fellowship Programme for Mainland China Visiting Scholars.
