SCM Hosts 2024 HK Summit on Quality Control of Valuable Chinese Medicines

The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM), in collaboration with the HK Authentication Centre of Valuable Chinese Medicines, successfully hosted the 2024 HK Summit on Quality Control of Valuable Chinese Medicines at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) on 19 October. The event attracted over 100 participants from the Chinese medicine industry and academia.

The Summit focused on quality control of valuable Chinese medicines, discussing important topics such as herbal medicine identification and the sustainable development of the herbal resource. Four insightful lectures were delivered, concentrating on quality evaluation and scientific research related to valuable Chinese medicines. Topics included “The application of classical and high throughput DNA sequencing for the authentication of herbal material”, “Research on Quality Assurance Systems for Cicadae Periostracum Resources”, “The mechanism of anti-colitis effects of Astragali polysaccharide RAP”, and “A Chemical Marker for Screening Sulfur-treated Herbal Medicines”. Scholars engaged in meaningful discussions with attendees on critical issues such as herbal identification and resource sustainability.

Since its inception in 2018, the Summit has aimed to foster communication and collaboration between industry and academia. Its overarching goal is to advance the standardization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine while enhancing public confidence in the quality of valuable Chinese medicines.
