18 October 2025

The 10th Honorary Professorship Conferment Ceremony-cum-Seminar of the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) was held on 18 October on campus, drawing to a close with great success. This year, the School conferred Honorary Professorships on nine distinguished professors who have remarkable contribution in the field of Chinese medicine, with five of them attending the conferment ceremony in person. The event attracted approximately 500 scholars, Chinese medicine practitioners, and SCM members, participating both physically and virtually.

In his welcome address, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, acknowledged the honorary professors for their outstanding achievements in research, teaching and clinical practice, which have made a significant impact both nationally and internationally. As the University approaches its 70th anniversary in 2026, Professor Wai reaffirmed HKBU’s commitment to advancing research excellence and attracting global talent. He also highlighted HKBU’s dedication to integrating traditional Chinese medicine with modern scientific innovations to drive healthcare advancements.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Li Min, Dean of Chinese Medicine, expressed her gratitude to the honorary professors for their support and shared her aspirations for deeper collaborations with SCM members to further advance the School’s achievements. She highlighted the School’s focus on teaching, research, and clinical service, and emphasised its alignment with national policies on the Greater Bay Area and the University’s strategic plan. With the opening of Hong Kong’s first Chinese medicine hospital, Professor Li underscored the School’s continued commitment to enhancing the development of Chinese medicine.

The seminar featured insightful lectures by the honorary professors, covering a range of topics including the diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease, climate change and sustainable sourcing for Chinese Materia Medica, traditional exercise therapy in disease rehabilitation, treatment of Type 2 diabetes, and circadian rhythms and glucocorticoids in skeletal health.

SCM looks forward to collaborating with the honorary professors on interdisciplinary research initiatives to improve Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment, while leveraging advanced technologies to accelerate the translation of research findings, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for all.

SCM extended its sincere appreciation to The HKBU Century Club for its staunch support to this event.
