Setting new benchmark: Thirteen SCM scholars recognised as world’s top 2% scientists

Thirteen scholars from the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) have achieved the remarkable distinction of being listed among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists in 2025, as announced by Stanford University. This achievement marks a new record high for SCM and highlights the School’s rising research excellence, as well as its expanding impact on the global academic stage.

The ranking compiled by a research team from Stanford University based on Scopus data, assesses the 100,000 top scientists who are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields based on key indicators, including citation impact and research output.

This year, two Chair Professors from the School achieved remarkable success in the field of Complementary & Alternative Medicine. Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) and Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice-President (Clinical Chinese Medicine) were ranked the first and second respectively in China, and 5th and 6th globally in the single-year citation category.  These accomplishments reflect the School’s prominent academic standing in the international academic community.
