22 December 2025

The inaugural “Symposium on the High-Quality Development of Dendrobium officinale Across Industry, Academia, and Research” was successfully held at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) on 13 December. The event was jointly organised by the Research Centre for Herb Polysaccharides and Intestinal Immunology of HKBU School of Chinese Medicine and the International Association of Materia Medica (IAMM), with support from the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA).

In his welcoming address, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU, remarked the historical significance and modern scientific potential of Dendrobium officinale. He also highlighted the interdisciplinary research of HKBU School of Chinese Medicine on the herb’s polysaccharides and gut immunity, and its commitment to promoting a standardised and evidence-based industrial transformation.

The symposium featured insightful talks by five scholars, focusing on the industrial prospects, material basis, and modern applications of Dendrobium officinale. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on topics including quality control standards and future application prospects, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

By bridging collaborative platforms across the Greater Bay Area through industry–academia–research collaboration, the symposium successfully promoted the modernisation and high‑quality development of Chinese medicine.
