The Malay edition of Chinese Medicinal Identification: An Illustrated Approach launched in Kuala Lumpur

3 February 2026

On 26 January, the Malay edition of Chinese Medicinal Identification: An Illustrated Approach, compiled by Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, Professor Emeritus of the School of Chinese Medicine, and Professor Chen Hubiao, Associate Director of Teaching and Research Division, was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur. Co-organised by the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division of Ministry of Health Malaysia and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, the launch ceremony brought together scholars and industry representatives from China and Malaysia to witness this important occasion.

Since the publication of its Chinese edition in 2010, the book has been translated into multiple languages and distributed worldwide. It features over 400 commonly used Chinese medicinal materials, with clear, richly illustrated descriptions of each material’s characteristics, provenance, harvesting methods, and medicinal information. Drawing on over forty years of research and fieldwork by the editorial team across China and more than 50 countries and regions, it is widely recognised as an authoritative international reference for the identification of Chinese medicinal materials. The release of the Malay edition will further promote the dissemination and application of Chinese medicine knowledge in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.

The multilingual publication of this book not only highlights the School’s efforts in academic internationalisation, but also reflects the growing trend that “Chinese medicine needs the world, and the world needs Chinese medicine”. The School will continue to enhance education, advance research, and drive knowledge transfer for the global development of Chinese medicine and human health.
