Dr. Queenie Wong, an alumna of our School, has been awarded the title of “Qi Huang Young Scholar” by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is one of the only two recipients from Hong Kong this year, and the first among our alumni to receive this prestigious honour. Presented every three years, the “Qi Huang Young Scholar” is a national honour that recognises around 100 Chinese medicine practitioners, scholars, and researchers under the age of 45 for their outstanding achievements and their commitment to both preserving tradition and driving innovation in Chinese medicine, with recipients receiving support for pioneering research.
Dr. Wong graduated from HKBU with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Chinese Medicine. She currently serves at the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute, where she contributes to research on the identification and authentication of Chinese medicines, and actively engages in knowledge transfer, promotion and education.
Professor Li Min, Dean of Chinese Medicine, congratulated Dr. Wong and expressed pride in our alumni, saying, “Our School is proud to have nurtured a wealth of outstanding talent, which truly reflects our lasting commitment to educational excellence. To date, four members of the School have been recognised as Qi Huang Scholars: Professor Bian Zhaoxiang as a Qi Huang Scholar, and three Qi Huang Young Scholars, including Dr. Queenie Wong. We will continue refining our curriculum in hopes of cultivating even more excellent professionals.”
Reflecting on her journey from student to researcher, Dr. Wong thanked her alma mater for nurturing her passion for Chinese medicine. She encouraged students to pursue innovation in Chinese medicine to advance research excellence in Hong Kong and support the heritage and development of the field.
