Chinese Medicine leaders gather to celebrate Chinese new year and chart a vision for the future

8 March 2026

The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) hosted a Spring Festival Tea Reception on 8 March, welcoming over 300 distinguished guests and bringing together government officials, industry leaders, friends and alumni for an inspiring celebration of a shared commitment to advancing Chinese Medicine.

Distinguished officiating guests, including Professor Martin Wong, Provost of HKBU; Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) and Dean of the Graduate School of HKBU; Dr. Vincent Chung Chi-ho, Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development of the Health Bureau; Mr. Wong Kwai-huen, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK); and Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice-President (Clinical Chinese Medicine) of HKBU and Hospital Chief Executive of CMHHK, delivered inspiring addresses with festive greetings, and expressed enthusiasm for promising opportunities and collaboration ahead.

In the Welcome Address, Professor Martin Wong affirmed the significant role of SCM in the inheritance and advancement of Chinese medicine. He expressed the hope that SCM would strengthen collaboration with the CMMHK and the broader community to continually enhance teaching, foster  greater synergy among industry, academia and research, and optimise clinical services.

Professor Lyu Aiping shared his vision for Chinese medicine, noting that both Chinese and Western medicine aim to advance human health and well-being. He believes that synergy and innovation between the two disciplines will promote public health, with SCM playing a leading role.

Dr. Vincent Chung Chi-ho, also an SCM alumnus, commended the School’s outstanding contributions to promoting Chinese medicine. With the government’s release of the “Chinese Medicine Development Blueprint” late last year, he stressed the importance of cross-sector partnerships in implementing competence-based medical education to nurture more talent in the field.

Mr. Wong Kwai-huen, recognising HKBU and SCM as the Hospital’s most steadfast supporters, looked forward to building stronger ties with them in areas such as talent development, clinical research, and academic exchange.

Professor Bian Zhaoxiang also shared with the guests on CMHHK’s operations during its first three months since establishment. To support the implementation of national and governmental development strategies, CMMHK will partner closely with SCM on furthering progress in medicine, education, and research.

Amid a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere, Professor Li Min, Dean of Chinese Medicine, extended heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering commitment and support of SCM’s stakeholders. She reaffirmed the School’s dedication to collaboration, particularly with the government, as we work collectively to drive Chinese medicine development forward. In celebration of International Women's Day, Professor Li invited all women to shine across diverse fields and to embrace confidence and strength.

The event was filled with joy and excitement as the young team from SWCS Chan Pak Sha School performed a spectacular lion dance. The officiating guests then joined in a toast, wishing for the continued prosperity and development of the Chinese medicine industry.
