Fostering Global Partnership: SCM Welcomes Academia Europaea for Academic Exchange

13 March 2026

On 13 March, the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) welcomed a prominent delegation from Academia Europaea (AE) for an engaging visit. The occasion featured in-depth discussions on translational research, with insights into innovative approaches for integrating Chinese medicine with cutting-edge biomedical frameworks to address major healthcare challenges.

Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU, shared with the AE members HKBU’s strategic research clusters and vision for international collaborations, highlighting its steadfast commitment to global research excellence.

In response, Professor Péter Ferdinandy, Director of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy at Semmelweis University, expressed strong interest in strengthening collaboration with HKBU, especially in pharmacology and drug discovery. Both parties showed great enthusiasm for launching joint programmes to provide research training opportunities for both postgraduate and undergraduate students.

Led by Professor Li Min, Professor Zhang Ge, and Professor Wong Hoi-leong Xavier, SCM researchers took part in in-depth small group exchanges with the delegation. Their discussions ranged from neuroscience, extreme environments and space medicine, to ageing, all of which stimulated meaningful dialogue and mutual learning, setting the stage for broader international collaboration for SCM.

Looking ahead, the School is eager to engage with more international experts to drive the synergistic development of HKBU’s research, education, and clinical practice.
