Global Experts Convene at SCM Symposium to Advance Research on Autophagy, Aging, Cancer and Neurodegeneration

4 Jun 2026

On June 2, the School hosted the “2026 Symposium on Autophagy, Aging, Cancer and Neurodegeneration: From Physiology, Pathology to Therapeutic Potential of Chinese Medicine”, uniting twelve distinguished scholars from across America, Europe, Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong and Macau regions. The event served as a dynamic platform for exchanging the latest scientific advances and emerging technologies in autophagy, aging, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.

A central theme was the pivotal role of autophagy in cellular aging, tumorigenesis, and the onset of neurodegenerative diseases. Experts presented landmark research into disease mechanisms, with a major highlight being the discussion on integrating the Chinese medicine wisdom with medical science. The symposium explored the therapeutic potential of Chinese medicine in modulating autophagy to slow aging, and treat cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.

Committed to fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, the symposium was set to inspire new avenues for innovation and bridge scientific research and clinical applications. The event also provided young scholars with invaluable opportunities to broaden their international perspectives.

The School extends its sincere appreciation to the HKBU Musketeers Foundation Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute for Age-related Diseases, Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming Centre for Parkinson’s Disease Research (CPDR), the Golden Meditech Centre for NeuroRegeneration Sciences (GCNS), HKBU Research Office, and HealthWorks Group Limited for their generous support which was instrumental to the success of this event.
