Carrying on the Legacy: Chinese Medicine Graduate Awarded Hong Kong PhD Fellowship

Chan Chin-ching Chester, a recent undergraduate of Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Science, is set to continue his academic journey at the School of Chinese Medicine, having earned the prestigious and fiercely competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship for 2026.

Behind this honour lies Chester’s steadfast pursuit of academic excellence and resolute commitment to serving society. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he earned numerous accolades for both his scholarship and community service, consistently applying his learning to bring vital support to local communities.

Reflecting on his time at the School, Chester is filled with gratitude. “The School offers a rigorous and comprehensive education that masterfully blends traditional Chinese medicine wisdom with modern science,” he says, expressing deep gratitude for his mentor, Professor Li Min. “Her teaching and inspiration guided me into this vast medical world.” He also praises the University’s commitment to whole-person education, “It provides ample resources to encourage us to serve society beyond our studies.”

Now, empowered by the Fellowship, Chester will embark on his doctoral research, focusing on the effect and neural mechanisms of electroacupuncture on cognitive function in adults with amnestic mild cognitive impairment. His vision for the future is clear and heartfelt, “This Fellowship is an encouragement and a responsibility. I hope to advance Chinese medicine through research and translate my findings into clinical practice, benefiting patients and the wider community..”
