Hong Kong Baptist University held the 10th Distinguished Alumni Award Presentation Ceremony on 26 June 2026, presenting the honour to Professor William Cho Chi-shing, a 2006 PhD alumnus of the School, in recognition of his outstanding professional and scholarly achievements, as well as his contributions to the University and society.
An internationally acclaimed biomedical scientist, Professor Cho is currently serving as the Scientific Officer (Medical) in the Department of Clinical Oncology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He has dedicated himself to cancer research, focusing on biomarker-driven early detection, relapse prevention, and the mechanisms of drug resistance. His interdisciplinary research spans Chinese medicine, molecular biology, genomics, immunology, and bioinformatics.
As a testament to his global impact, Professor Cho has been ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University since 2017 and was recognised as a “Highly Cited Researcher” by Clarivate Analytics in recent years. A prolific author, he has published over 700 peer-reviewed articles, authored over 36 academic books and has been honoured with Fellowships by professional organisations worldwide.
Expressing the School’s immense pride, Professor Li Min commended, “Professor Cho’s extraordinary achievements in cancer research perfectly embody our School’s motto, ‘Sincerity in Service, Erudition and Integrity’. He is an exemplary role model for our faculty and students.” Professor Li highlighted the shared research focus of the School’s Shum Yiu Foon Shum Bik Chuen Memorial Centre for Cancer and Inflammation Research, expressing her eagerness to pursue further research collaboration and join hands in advancing evidence-based traditional Chinese medicine on the world stage.
Since its establishment in 1999, the School has nurtured over 4,000 graduates who have excelled across diverse fields. Professor Cho’s remarkable success is a powerful testament to the School’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and talent development.
