SCM hosted a spring reception on campus on 1 March (Sunday) which was attended by more than 100 participants, including the University and SCM leadership, government officials, leaders and members of the Chinese medicine industry as well as faculty, students and alumni of the School.  The participants exchanged Lunar New Year greetings and views on the development of Chinese medicine.

To add festivity to the gathering, a lion dance was staged with the initiation ceremony officiated by Ms. Irene Ho, Service Manager (Chinese Medicine Department), Hospital Authority; Ms. Feng Jiu, Chairman of Chinese Medicine Practice Subcommittee, Chinese Medicine Development Committee; Mr. Wong Kit, Chairman of Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board, Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong; Professor Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic); Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development); Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; and Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, Associate Dean of SCM.

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Luk attributed the outstanding achievements of the School in the areas of education, research, standardisation of Chinese medicine, provision of clinical services and the promotion of Chinese medicine in the past year to the hard work of its faculty and students as well as the strong support of the government, the Chinese medicine sector and alumni.  Professor Zhao introduced the plans of the School for the coming years, in particular the Compendium of Materia Medica cultural project launched last year.  He called on the participants to continue rendering their strong support to the School to enable it to make more contributions to the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.
