SCM won research funds of about HKD10 million from NSFC, RGC and ITC for 11 research projects

SCM has made laudable achievements in winning research grants in recent years. The researchers have won a total of 11 grants amounting to about HK$ 10 million for their projects this year : 5 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2014 and 5 from the General Research Fund (GRF) of Research Grants Council (RGC) in 2014-15. The School has also been awarded an Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) for its collaborative project with mainland and local enterprises from the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC).

The School is committed to cutting-edge research for the purpose of advancing the development of Chinese medicine. The success in obtaining external research funds owes in no small part to the identification of innovative drug discovery as a research focus under the development strategies of SCM, the importance attached to nurturing young research talents, and the institution of measures to strengthen research.

Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine, said that the School has reaped a bumper crop of research grants this year, with the researchers, both seasoned and young, achieving a record high of 11 grants from major funding bodies in a year. He encourages SCM researchers to continue their dedication to innovative research and achieve groundbreaking research outcomes outputs, which would further build the School’s research strength and culture and contribute to the enhancement of human health.
