Three Year 5 students from the School of Chinese Medicine majoring in Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Science, Xing Mengyun, Guo Wen and Sun Yiguo, won the first prize (Hong Kong-Macau category) for their brilliant performance in the first Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Chinese Medicine University Students Clinical Competence Contest organised by the Chinese Medicine Teaching Steering Committee of the Higher Education under the Ministry of Education in December.
The competition was the first held in Pan-Pearl River Delta region following contests of the same kind in East China and the three North regions. It was held in Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, attracting 13 tertiary institutions from the Mainland, Macau and Hong Kong. They were Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southern Medical University, Hainan Medical University, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jinan University as well as HKBU, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Macau University of Science and Technology.
The competition aimed at testing the contestants’ Chinese medicine techniques and clinical practice skills. The teams were required to take part in 10 rounds of contests which covered areas such as Chinese medicine fundamental theory, knowledge and skills of Chinese materia medica, Chinese medicine formulas, diagnostics of Chinese medicine (tongue and pulse examination techniques), communication skills in clinical consultation, acupuncture, tui na, Chinese medicine in dermatological diseases, and performing a short play on an emergency case.
