On 4 May 2026, the School of Chinese Medicine and the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a formal commitment to a long-term strategic partnership. Both institutions are dedicated to fostering educational and academic research excellence through the sharing of resources and expertise, creating new opportunities for global collaboration in the field of Chinese medicine.
Professor Lao Lixing, President of VUIM, then delivered a highly interactive and informative seminar titled “Status of TCM/Acupuncture Education in the USA — Introduction of Education Program at the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine”.
In his presentation, Professor Lao highlighted the growth of acupuncture since the 1970s and the standardisation efforts led by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. He further elaborated on how integrative medicine and evidence-based practice have been successfully incorporated into modern training frameworks in the United States, as well as the unique features and challenges of acupuncture training there, stimulating fruitful discussion among the audience.
This event not only promoted academic exchange between the two universities but also provided a valuable platform for faculty members to gain insights into the current state of international acupuncture and Chinese Medicine education. The School will continue to advance international collaboration with overseas institutions.
