The HKBU School of Chinese Medicine has celebrated the grand opening of its new “HKBU Shatin Fook Kwan Chinese Medicine Clinic”. The clinic was made possible by a generous property donation from Shum’s Investment Limited, significantly expanding the clinical network of HKBU Chinese Medicine and its commitment to serving the Hong Kong community.

The opening ceremony, held on 9 June, was officiated by Shum family representatives: Ms. Sham Lai-ping, Mr. Shum Chee-on, Mrs. Shum Tam Wan-ching and Mr. Fook Pui-chi. They were joined by HKBU senior management, including Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development); Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Li Min, Dean of Chinese Medicine; and Professor Sun Feng, Director of the Clinical Division.

Shum family, emphasising that the donation not only promotes the development of local Chinese medicine healthcare services but also fully embodies the spirit of caring for society and giving back to the community.

Professor Li Min, Dean of Chinese Medicine, revealed the heartfelt origin of the clinic’s name. “Fook Kwan (福群) beautifully combines characters from the names of the Shum family’s parents,” she explained. “It carries a legacy of love and heritage while perfectly aligning with HKBU Chinese Medicine’s vision of benefiting the community.”

She added, “The Shatin Fook Kwan Clinic is our first street-front branch, making the services of HKBU Chinese Medicine more accessible and convenient to the community. It joins our extensive network of nine directly-operated and seven partner clinics, continuing a tradition of high-quality care that began in 1999.”

Now fully operational, the Clinic offers a range of professional Chinese medicine services, including medical concessions for vulnerable groups Upholding the motto of “Great Physicians in Sincerity and Dedication” (大醫精誠), the School remains dedicated to clinical excellence and public health.
